Matthew Gale

Matthew's career in theatre spans nearly 35 years and he has worked on over 75 West End productions as a Sound Engineer, Sound Designer, Production Manager, Production Executive, General Manager, Executive Producer and Producer.

Matthew was Duncan C Weldon's Production Executive at Triumph Productions for ten years. After leaving, Matthew was General Manager of the National Theatre's production of Baby Doll (Albery Theatre); Notre Dame de Paris (Dominion Theatre) and was Production Coordinator for the National Theatre's US tour of Hamlet starring Simon Russell Beale. He was General manager on the original London production of Rent (Shaftesbury Theatre), Michael Moore Live at the Roundhouse and Slava's Snowshow (UK tours 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009), Executive Producer of My Name is Rachel Corrie directed by Alan Rickman (Playhouse, Galway Festival and Edinburgh Festival) and was Consultant Producer on Million Dollar Quartet at the Royal Festival Hall in 2016.

Producing credits include: Rent (Prince of Wales), Auntie & Me with Alan Davies (Wyndham's and Gaiety, Dublin). Of Mice & Men (Olivier nomination Best Revival) with Matthew Kelly (Olivier Award Best Actor) and George Costigan at the Savoy Theatre and at the Old Vic, The National Theatre's Elmina's Kitchen by Kwame Kwei-Armah (Garrick Theatre), Ian Richardson's last performance in the West End The Creeper (Playhouse Theatre) and Honour with Diana Rigg, (Wyndham's Theatre). Matthew was a producer on Damon Albarn's Monkey Journey to the West at the O2 and To Kill a Mockingbird with Duncan Preston (UK tour).

In 2010 he was lead Producer with Jenny King of The Railway Children at Waterloo station for which he won the 2011 Olivier Award for Best Entertainment; 2011/12 saw further productions of The Railway Children at Waterloo and in Toronto. In the autumns of 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017 he produced Slava's Snowshow UK tours and at the Royal Festival Hall. A Chorus Line at the London Palladium (Olivier Award nomination for Best Musical Revival.), Pat Barker's Regeneration adapted by Nicholas Wright UK Tour. National Tour of Hairspray in 2015/16 and 2017/18 (Nominated for Best Musical Production, What's Onstage Awards) in 2018 Dracula written by Jenny King which was a celebration of The Touring Consortium's 20 years of touring large scale Drama chosen to engage with new theatre audiences .The Man in the White Suit in Bath and Wyndham's Theatre in the West End. In 2021 Matthew will be producing large scale tours of Hairspray and Priscilla Queen of the Desert and the Slava Snowshow again with Mark Goucher.

Matthew is very proud to have received the 2011 Olivier award for Best Entertainment for The Railway Children and Three other Olivier Award Nominations. The Railway Children production in Toronto received the Audience Choice Dora Award. Matthew is currently a Commercial Producer, General Manager and is a Member of SOLT. Matthew runs the BRIT Program for The University of South Florida which takes UK creatives to work with students in the US to share the culture of British theatre
